Scholarship Opportunities

Each year the members of the Order of Eastern Star in Vermont raise money to support its three types of scholarships.

The first is Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious Leadership, E.S.T.A.R.L.  These scholarships are offered to any person who is entering the field of religious leadership, such as the ministry, Christian education or church music.

The second is the Philip and Alice Angell Eastern Star Scholarship Fund to assist worthy Vermont students in pursuing post-secondary education.  The recipient must be a Vermont high school graduate or have earned a diploma or its equivalent through the Vermont Adult Base Education or Adult Diploma Program.  Financial need is one criteria for selection.

The third is the Flora E. Lyons Educational Scholarship Fund. To be eligible, a student who is a member in good standing of a Vermont Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, or one of whose parents or grandparents is, or was at the time of death, a member of good standing of a Vermont Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. The grant is available to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors in college. College is “an institution for special instruction,” which would include business schools, conservatories of music and all schools of higher education.
